Due to late booking we ended up with the last week of the season. This is not a good idea due to the lack of fresh fish in the river and people who are eager to fish as much as possible before the season is over.
To be able to work in the cabin we have a research project running at all times trying to optimize our Internet connection. Last year’s best result was about 1.5 Mb/s with unstable speed and ping times. This year we upgraded with a special ordered antenna from DealExtreme.
After mounting the antenna on the roof we had to fine adjust the direction based on a constant download and signal-to-noise ratio. We ended up with pointing the antenna in a 90 degree angle west of the real placement of the base station. My guess is that the reflection from the mountain gives the best signal in this situation.
All in all we’re satisfied with a 2.8 Mb/s download and a 1.5 Mb/s upload speed with ping times around 60-80 ms.
